Established in 1971, Lahaina Canoe Club was the first canoe club on the west side of Maui. Today, Lahaina Canoe Club is an active member of the Maui County Hawaiian Canoe Association participating in all sanctioned regattas and playing host to the "Na Keiki O Maui" Regatta held at Hanaka'o'o Beach. Lahaina Canoe Club has the honor of owning the Lehia, the last ocean worthy outrigger racing canoe made from a single Koa tree. The Lahaina Canoe Club is regularly asked to participate in Hawaiian cultural events due to the ancient significance of the Lehia.
