The outrigger canoe and its many uses were first discovered by Polynesians in the South Pacific hundreds of years before it was introduced to Hawai'i. Used widely for fishing, fighting, and transportation in Hawai'i's colorful past, it is now used mostly for sport, and is the official team sport of the Islands.
