Founded in 1961, the United States Surfing Association (USSA) was the first nationwide association for surfing ever formed. As far as its design, the USSA held a logo design competition in which surf legend Marge Calhoun's daughter, Candy, won. The surfer is modeled after Dewey Weber riding a wave at Pupukea, O`ahu.
