Founded by Wally Froiseth in 1948, the Waikiki Surf club took the best aspects of the Outrigger Canoe Club (1908) and the Hui Nalu or "club of the waves" (1911) and established a new club with a goal to, "Maintain and perpetuate Hawaiian culture through the promotion of Hawaiian amateur water sports; to teach, train, instruct and expose men, women, and children in the ancient arts, drafts, and history of Hawaiian canoe paddling and surfing. To Proveide means and facilities for activities fostering the development and maintenance of strong and healthy minds, bodies, and spirits among all peoples."
