As Americans, we celebrate our nation’s independence every 4th of July. And while tea played a large part in why we revolted way back then, today, alcohol plays a major part in how we celebrate. So, it only makes sense that July is also “American Beer Month.” And while thousands of beers are produced on the mainland, one of our most famous brands was born right here in Hawai’i, our 50th state – Primo Beer. Though Primo would change hands many times – once bought by Schlitz and then by Stroh – at one point, it proudly claimed 70% of the Hawaiian market. It hasn’t been produced since 1998, but for 100 years, it not only united our 50 states, but surfers from around the world.
